Changes to Web of Science/Web of Knowledge, January 2014

The Web of Knowledge database is having a makeover in January, and will be rebranded as Web of Science.

The interface looks more minimalist compared to before but the same functionality is there. It has just been hidden behind the ‘More Settings’ section. Additional search fields can also be added thanks to the ‘Add Another Field’ tab.

The search results also have the same capabilities as previously - it just looks a bit different.

An interesting development is the addition of two types of trophy that has now been calculated:
1. Highly Cited Trophy – Where the paper is in the top 1% of citations for a subfield (see below)
2. Hot Trophy – Where the paper has been cited very quickly since publication:

The individual record to a record now has additional information. This includes a ‘Find in Google Scholar’ tab as part of the agreement Web of Science and Google Scholar have in place. Additionally, there is funding information when available and the newly introduced Keywords Plus the section allows you to select the fields for a new search if desired.
