Introducing Reading Lists @ Beds

Here's a short video explaining the new Reading Lists system, which we have been busy implementing ready for the new academic year. You'll need to log in to BREO to view it.

Problems getting to Newsbank articles from DISCOVER

We're getting a variety of error messages when trying to access Newsbank newspaper articles found in DISCOVER or using the LinkSource button. We are trying to find a solution to this with our suppliers - however in the meantime you can still get access to the articles, if you go direct to Newsbank and choose either Access World News or NewsBank Newspapers - U.K. and Ireland, depending on the source of your article. You can then copy and paste the article title into the search box and you should find it.

If this still doesn't work for you, let us know at library.technical@beds.ac.uk.

Scopus interface enhancements are now live

Since launching a more streamlined interface in February, the Scopus Team has been working on additional site developments that include enhancing Scopus analysis tools as well as improving ORCID functionality. The release that went live this month reflects the result of these developments.

As a result all analysis tools have been restructured to provide a more consistent experience across all areas of Scopus. Three tools specifically have been improved and renamed and now include new features such as the option to export charts and graphs.

With this last release, all Scopus analysis tools have been moved to JavaScript technology and no longer depend on Flash support in browsers; Apple iOS device users are now able to access the analysis tools.

Changes to wireless access at Luton Park Square, Butterfield and Aylesbury campuses

The university has upgraded the wireless network at Park Square, Butterfield and Aylesbury, and the way you log in to it has changed a little.

The wireless connections available will be: Eduroam, Guest Registration, and Guest-UoB. UoB-Staff and UoB-Student will no longer be available.

Eduroam login details will include your university username followed by @beds.ac.uk: username@beds.ac.uk and the password is your normal university password. For students it will be your student ID followed by @beds.ac.uk.

Connection instructions are available in the following location: http://www.beds.ac.uk/contactus/wireless/eduroam

Guest Registration will enable users to request their own code to log on as a guest. This code is presented when completing the online form when connecting to Guest Registration. When the code is supplied, you can connect to Guest-UoB with this code until 5am the following day.

The same changes are planned for Bedford, but work for this has not yet begun.
