Problems with access to Emerald resources off campus

We are currently having problems with login to Emerald (content on the platform https://www.emerald.com/) off campus. We are waiting for Emerald to resolve the issue.

Emerald up and running again

Emerald have got their site working again but they are warning that loading content may be slow after this morning's problems

Problem with Emerald ebooks and ejournals

 There is currently a problem with access to resources on the Emerald platform. 

Emerald are aware and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

Emerald ejournals and ebooks - problem

 The Emerald platform is having problems this morning and you may not be able to access content. 

This may affect both ejournals and ebooks on with emerald.com in the URL.

We hope this will be back to normal soon.

Emerald platform scheduled downtime 15 October 2020 4-5pm BST

We have been warned of scheduled maintenance to the Emerald platform on 15 October 2020 between 4 and 5pm BST

There will be no access to ebooks or ejournals from Emerald during this time. This will affect any resources with emerald.com in the URL.

Emerald journal problems

There is currently a problem with some links from the library catalogue and DISCOVER to Emerald journals and articles in them. If you are off-campus, you may get error messages following some links. Emerald are working on this issue but meanwhile there are some workarounds if you have problems.

1) From the library catalogue, please use the link marked “via UK Access Management Federation”

2) From DISCOVER you may need to log in to see the full text of the article.

a) If you get the message: “You might not have access to this content”, click on the Login button

b) You will then be asked your institution. Put in “Bedfordshire”, click on the Find button and select University of Bedfordshire.

c) You will then be shown a University of Bedfordshire Login button. Click on this and log in using your student number and UoB password.

Emerald journals new website update

We think that the problems reported earlier have now been fixed, and links to Emerald content should be working correctly. But if you do notice anything odd, please let us know.

Emerald ejournals new website problems

Emerald launched their new website yesterday. Unfortunately there are a few problems accessing the new site. You may get an error message, or may find the site looks wrong (e.g. like this)

If this happens, go direct to the new site https://www.emerald.com/insight and start again. If off campus, you will need to click the Login button at the top right. Then use the Find your institution box to locate University of Bedfordshire and use your usual username and password.

We have reported these issues to Emerald and hope to have everything back to normal soon.

Emerald platform maintenance Tuesday 5th February

We've been notified of maintenance on the Emerald ejournal and ebook platform Tuesday 5th February from 8am to 8pm. We are not expecting downtime, but some features will be unavailable, including Search and personalised accounts.

Access to journals from IEEE, Springer, Emerald, Taylor & Francis and Wiley - no more proxy errors

We're glad to say we have a solution to the "proxy error" problems affecting ejournal content from IEEE, Springer, Emerald, Taylor & Francis and Wiley over the last few weeks.

You should no longer get an error message when trying to access articles from these publishers, whether via DISCOVER or via the library catalogue.

If you do get any further errors, please let us know.

Proxy Error problems

We have a known problem with error messages like this appearing when trying to access Wiley, Taylor & Francis and Emerald journals, among others:

We are working to minimise the problem but in the meantime if you come across this error there are a few things you can do.

If you have followed a link to the article from BREO or Reading Lists (but not DISCOVER), you could try editing the link

to take out the 0- and brum.beds.ac.uk parts. For example:

http://0-www.tandfonline.com.brum.beds.ac.uk/doi/abs/10.1080/09687590050058251

becomes

http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09687590050058251

If you're on campus, this will take you to the article - if you're off campus, look for a Login option, and choose "Login via your institution" and "Shibboleth". Each publisher's site will look slightly different, but when you get to the Shibboleth option you need to pick University of Bedfordshire from the list and login via our login page. (If you get a Stale Request Message, try the link again - it should work the second time.)

If this isn't an option, check the library catalogue for the journal title (not the article title), as will put up alternative links wherever possible. Links with "via UK Access Management Federation" in the description are not affected by the problem, and neither are links specifically for On-campus use.

(If when trying to use one of these links you get a Stale Request Message, try the link again - it should work the second time.) You'll have to navigate to the volume and issue you need, but you will get access.

If none of these options work for you please contact us and we will find a way to get access for you.

Emerald journals platform maintenance today

We've been warned of maintenance taking place today on the Emerald journal platform. Access to articles should still be available but there will be no search or login to individual accounts to access alerts or saved searches.

Emerald Insight platform maintenance - 6 June, 9am to 9pm

We've been warned of upcoming maintenance to the Emerald Insight platform, beginning Tuesday 6th June, 9am for up to 12 hours.

Content should still be available but there will be no interactive features eg access to personal accounts, and no search. This will affect all journals with www.emeraldinsight.com in the URL.

Emerald journals - maintenance Tuesday 4th October

Emerald have announced upcoming maintenance on their journal platform, all day on Tuesday 4th October. Access to journal articles should still be working but there will be no search or access to any personal account you may have.

Emerald Insight website maintenance

We've been warned of upcoming maintenance for the Emerald Insight ejournal platform Tuesday 7 June 2016, beginning at 9am, lasting for up to 12 hours. You should be able to read articles during this time but will not be able to interact with the site including searching or updating alerts.

Emerald ejournals maintenance

We've been warned of upcoming maintenance on the Emerald ejournal platform, to take place on Tuesday 9th June  between 8am and 8pm.

During the maintenance period, articles should still be accessible but there will be no search facility or  personal account access. During this 12 hour maintenance window, Emerald may become unavailable for up to 15 minutes. If you should access the website during this time you will receive a ‘connection timeout’, or similar message, within your browser. 

Emerald journals disruption today - update - UK Access Management Federation

In addition to the functions listed below, we've discovered that the UK Access Management Federation login option is also unavailable today.

No access to European Journal of Marketing

We are having a problem with online access to European Journal of Marketing. This has been reported, and we hope to have access restored soon.
