Library management system upgrade Tuesday 28 October

We have a planned upgrade to our library management system on Tuesday 28 October, from 10 - 11 AM.

During this time, the Library server, including the Library Catalogue, self-issue and returns units will be unavailable. However, most digital library resources can be accessed via DISCOVER.

Library system upgrade 25th June

We are going to be upgrading our library system from 1pm on Tuesday 25th June. Access on Wednesday 26th will only be affected if there have been problems.

During the downtime the library catalogue, self issue/return machines, book renewals and reservations will be unavailable. You may still borrow and return books at the customer service desks.

DISCOVER will still be operating normally and many resources can also be accessed via this list.

ICT system shutdown between 20th January 2024 to 21st January 2024

ICT are going to be upgrading some core systems over the weekend of 20th - 21st January. This means that most of our systems will be unavailable during that time, including:

• library catalogue, including book renewals
• access to digital library resources including DISCOVER, ebooks, ejournals and databases
• Library PCs
• SID

Some key systems will keep working:

• email
• BREO
• Office 365
• university websites

Library system maintenance 12th July 2023

We are going to be doing some work on the library system behind our library catalogue, book loans and renewals on Wednesday 12th July 2023 from 10.30am. Thursday 13th July will also be at risk.

During this time there will be no access to the library catalogue or to self issue/return/renewal of books.

Access to some digital library resources will be disrupted but DISCOVER and reading lists will not be affected and most digital library resources will be available via these routes.

Changes to login to library resources - 21st June

 What are the Library doing?

We are changing the account login screen for the Library Catalogue and access to digital resources. This will affect you if you want to reserve or renew books and if you want to access digital resources via our proxy server, i.e. resources with a URL beginning "0-"

When will this be done?

The change will take place on Wednesday 21st June at 10.00am.

 What will be affected?

It is anticipated that here will be no effect on services.

 Why are we doing this?

To allow integration with the University single sign-on system

 What do you need to do?

There is no need to take action.

 At log on you will see the following screen,

 

If you are a UoB student or member of staff, choose UoB Single Sign-On. Students can then login as usual with your registration number and password. Staff should now login with their network username rather than the library X-number as before.

If you are an external library user, i.e. not a student or member of staff, you will need to use the Library Login option, and use the same login details as before.

University system issues

We seem to be having some system issues right now which are affecting access to library resources among other systems. Please bear with us while we find out what is going on

Library system upgrade 15th/16th December

We are upgrading the Library System this evening to an new version

This will take place on this evening, Thursday 15th December 2022 at 10.30pm with 16th December considered being at risk.

 

During this time, the Library Catalogue, self issue and return will be unavailable. However, most resources can be accessed via DISCOVER or from this list

 

Library catalogue downtime and at risk period - Wednesday 15th December from 10.30pm through Thursday 16th December

We are upgrading our library software on Wednesday, beginning from 10.30pm (GMT) and there will be some unavoidable downtime. We are anticipating the system to be back up and running by 1.30 am, but if there are problems that period may be extended through the morning. 

While the system is down:

• the library catalogue will be unavailable, there will be no search, reservation or renewal options
• there will be no issuing or returning of books via self service or service desks
• some digital library resources will be unavailable (anything with a URL beginning 0-), as these use the library system to authenticate
• DISCOVER will continue to be accessible via the normal link but some links out to content may not work properly

Many digital library resources will remain accessible via an alternative login system, there is a list here.

Library catalogue downtime and at-risk period Wednesday 13th October 12.00 am (midnight) to 12.00 pm (noon)

We are upgrading our library software tomorrow and there will be some unavoidable downtime. We are anticipating the system to be back up and running by 1.30 am, but if there are problems that period may be extended through the morning.

Library system downtime 1st July 2021 20.15-21.15

We are doing some work to update our library system, which means that the library catalogue and our self issue and return machines will be unavailable from 20.15 this evening for up to an hour. During this time you will be unable to issue, return or request books.

Library system downtime Monday 16th December 6am-9am

We are going to be upgrading our library management software between 6am and 9am on Monday 16th December. These services will be unavailable during that time:

 

Library catalogue

Self-service library issue and returns

Laptop loans

Telephone renewals

Any digital resource which has "0-....brum.beds.ac.uk" in the URL

Access to the majority of ejournals, databases and ebooks will still be available via DISCOVER,

or alternatively via this list of resources.
