NewsBank Special Reports - December 2018

NewsBank’s Special Reports are news articles, images, maps and other useful content grouped for convenience under specific topics and themes. They enable users to quickly locate information while helping them gain better insight into current global issues and events.

Top DISCOVER searches last month

This is what everyone was researching in November:

Top tip - don't search Discover for BREO - there are much quicker ways to get there! Just type breo.beds.ac.uk in your address bar, or even a Google search for "breo" will work.

VLEbooks problem fixed

The problem access VLEbooks  has now been resolved. Please let us know if you have any further difficulties.

New interface for NewsBank

NewsBank have now updated their search interface. We still have access to all the same newspaper content, try it out and let us know what you think. NewsBank have also produced a set of videos on all aspects of the product, such as basic and advanced searching, alerts, suggested topics and setting up personal folders.

Problem accessing VLEbooks - "Oops. Something unexpected has occurred"

We're currently having problems accessing ebooks from VLEbooks - when you click Read Online you get "Oops. Something unexpected has occurred".

We have reported to our supplier and hope for a quick resolution.

Library system update - downtime tonight 19th November, 9pm-10pm

We will be upgrading the library system tonight between 9 and 10 pm.

The following services won't be available during this time:

Library catalogue

Self-service units

Laptop loans

Telephone renewals

Any digital resource with a URL including 0-....brum.beds.ac.uk

Access to the majority of ejournals, databases, ebooks will still be available via DISCOVER 

or via this link.

Westlaw off campus access restored

We now have access to Westlaw again from both on and off campus.

From the library catalogue, just search for "westlaw" and click the Westlaw (off campus) link, and you'll be asked to log in with your usual UoB login- you'll then see a page with the shared username and password for Westlaw. Westlaw will also ask you for a Client ID - this can be anything you choose.
